Artist's Description

While on a trip out west I came upon this burned out tree on the side of a mountain. While trees nearby had survived a previous fire, this ancient tree had been consumed by it. The image struck me as sad that it would grow no taller after years of struggling against the elements of snow, wind, and cold. Yet it stands even in death as a testament that everything wants to live.
